Leeds City Square Artist Commission: LEEDS 2023

Leeds 2023 are looking for an artist or creative team to help them deliver one of the most ambitious and innovative public artworks the city has ever seen.

The LEEDS 2023 takeover of City Square will be a feat of engineering, science and art that speaks to the city’s heritage. A city that arose from the River Aire with a proud industrial past, they want to find someone who can create something extraordinary for the people of the city today.

Design Brief

This brief is for the creation of an artwork that can also act as a temporary pavilion/venue that will house small scale events and activities. They want the artwork to be memorable, showcase Leeds to the world and demonstrate their appetite for ambitious cultural experiences in the city.

The artwork should be a feat of science, engineering and art that speaks to the city’s heritage.

LEEDS 2023 welcomes applications from artists around the world but particularly encourages those with a connection to Leeds or the wider West Yorkshire Region.

Artists must have at least 5 years experience of creating artworks in the public realm and/or 3 previous 3D public realm commissions.
