BIG BRONTË BIRTHDAY
21st April 2016 marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of Charlotte Brontë, closely followed by the 200th anniversary of the other Brontë siblings in 2017 (Branwell), 2018 (Emily) and 2020 (Anne).
The Spen Valley, Dewsbury and Mirfield areas of Kirklees have very many Brontë connections which sometimes get overlooked by Tourists who see Haworth as the only Brontë destination.
Kirklees Museums and Galleries would like to form a Brontë Birthday 200 Network for all those local places and groups with Brontë connections. The network will be an opportunity to share ideas with other groups, gain some inspiration to plan activities to mark the anniversary and ultimately raise the public awareness of the Brontë connections in the local area.
There is a first meeting of the network at Oakwell Hall Barn on Wednesday, 30th September 2015 at 1.00pm. Go along to find out more.
