Informed Decision Making with Big Data
3M BIC "Informed Decision Making with Big Data"
Robin Widdowson from the Creative Economy Team recently attended a fascinating and useful event that helped to raise the profile of the creative Industries in Kirklees. We wanted to share the information and the developments being made that could help you bring your statistics to life.
The purpose of the event was to introduce businesses to the concept and potential of bringing their statistics to life through data visualization (as oppose to dry and hard to understand statistical reports): to leave them with a better understanding of the power of their data, how to access it, visualise it, analyse it, and ultimately turn it into something that can help grow their businesses by easily understanding their customers, supply chains and support in accessing new markets.
The event was hosted at 3M BIC in partnership with Leeds City Region and sponsored by Barclays and the University of Huddersfield, it gave the creative industries a real platform and illustrated (literally) the linkages and benefits of sectors working more closely.
Key speakers at the ‘Informed decision making with big data’ event included: Prof Bob Cryan OBE, Vice-Chancellor at the University of Huddersfield, Roger Marsh, Chair of the Leeds City Region LEP, Andy Kirk, an internationally well-known “data visualiser” and editor of www.visualisingdata.com - http://www.visualisingdata.com/resources/ - as well as Professor Liz Towns Andrews, CEO of the 3M BIC.
The 3M BIC has plans to become a centre of excellence for data visualisation in the region, initially focusing on market opportunities and supply chains. They hope to open a dedicated office that business can access and contract data reports to support their growth plans.
