Artist Commissions: Untold Stories of Burmantofts & New Briggate

East Street Arts are looking for two artists for a unique project exploring the rich history of Burmantofts and New Briggate.

They are looking for an Artist-Researcher and an Artist-Educator to work with local groups in Mabgate, Lincoln Green and Burmantofts on a pilot project exploring the rich history of Burmantofts ceramics and its relationship to New Briggate!

The Artist-Researcher role will work closely with Leeds Civic Trust and delve into the history and archives of Burmantofts pottery and ceramic tiles, and it’s connection and presence on and around New Briggate creating a resource with and for the local community.

The Artist-Educator role will use this historical research and through production of intergenerational activity packs and workshops ask participants to respond to and design their own ideas for the Future Briggate.

The commissioned artists will have two different but collaborating roles and will work with a community of people to identify the key themes and elements of this untold heritage story that will influence the final work.
