DN Festival of Light Volunteer
The DNFestival is taking place in Doncaster Minster from Friday 16th November to Saturday 24th November. The festival will be packed with performances, music, singing, light installations and more.
What are we looking for?
We’re looking for a dynamic team of Festival Hosts who will be the main point of contact with the public throughout the festival.
You should be committed and enthusiastic with a hands-on attitude and a friendly and approachable manner.
You must be over 16 years old but you don’t have to have experience, just good timekeeping and a friendly face. Whether you are interested in getting work experience, would like to try something new or would just like to volunteer your time and be part of running an exciting and vibrant arts festival, we would like to hear from you.
What will I be doing?
The Festival Hosts will be the ambassadors for the whole DNFestival - you might be welcoming festival-goers, taking tickets, distributing brochures, navigating people to and from performances, collecting data or feedback, assisting bands or artists, helping set up and generally making sure everything is going smoothly.
Why should I get involved?
You could volunteer for one day or the whole festival, and in return you will receive the following:
* Travelling expenses paid
* Support from the festival team
* Unrivalled access to the festival
* Hands on experience of running a festival alongside a friendly and professional team
* Learn new skills and gain experience

Further Information…
Each role involves working as part of a team, and all are public facing, in that you will be visible as Festival Hosts, and members of the public may approach you for information on the event. Individual roles have differing areas of focus. Here’s a rundown of the roles we need to fill:
GET IN/GET OUT SUPPORT
Helping set up and de-rig the event, decorating areas, arranging signage, carrying equipment.
STAFFING INFORMATION STAND
Static role at one of the information stands situated. You are there to answer enquiries from members of the public who approach you for information.
FESTIVAL STEWARDS
Meeting and greeting artists, making sure they have all their requirements and that they are set up and open on time. Helping set up and take away furniture, this will involve carrying trestle tables and chairs between sites. Blowing up balloons and decorating sites. Acting as Festival Ambassadors during open times, being proactive with handing out leaflets and encouraging members of the public to visit various areas and installations. Taking tickets and monitoring people entering and exiting the Minster. Assisting to ensure the smooth running of the festival.
WALKABOUT / GENERAL ARTIST SUPPORT
Meeting and greeting walkabout artists, showing them their changing areas, possibly running event related errands, accompanying them while they travel to their performance site, and staying with them throughout their performance.
During the performance, it is your responsibility to keep a watchful eye on members of the public – that they are gathering in a safe manner, and that they are not causing a nuisance to performers. Sometimes involves looking after equipment / props, while artists are having their break.
MONITORING AND EVALUATION SUPPORT
Throughout the festival our staff will be collecting data in a variety of forms and will need support doing this. You could be completing headcounts for each of the performances, helping members of the public to use interactive feedback stands or recording general feedback.
POP-UP CINEMA SUPPORT
On the evening of Saturday 17th November, we will have a pop-up cinema, screening two space-themed films. We will need Festival Hosts to help set up, greet audience members, collect tickets, direct audiences to seats and collect feedback after each screening.
Other info…
Town Centre Ambassadors are on duty throughout the Festival and are fully aware of the programme. They are our festival friends and are there to support us, particularly with any public order.
Times listed are approximate, and open times vary site to site, so some may start earlier / later and finish earlier / later.
Please let us know if you are available to start any earlier or later on any of the days.
A Volunteer Briefing will be held before the festival, to give you more information on the specific role you will be doing and the acts you will be working with. Our Volunteer Co-ordinator will contact you with more details about this nearer the time.
This year DNFestival is committed to improving access for deaf and disabled people. If you have any additional needs, please do let us know and we will do our best to support you.
