MORE NEWS ABOUT HUDDERSFIELD MASALA TEA PARTY
Save the Date!
Our community event to mark the 70th anniversary of the partition of India into the independent nations of India and Pakistan is coming on Saturday August 12th.
It's a chance for the community to come together, have a cup of chai and a samosa and experience some wonderful music, dance and performance. Mandeep Samra will unveil her new installation based on people's memories of partition and Iqbal Husain from the National Archives in London will be with us to answer your questions about the largest mass migration in history.
Chol Theatre together with Let’s Go Yorkshire invite you on an emotive journey exploring the idea of physical boundaries with the memories of those involved in the largest mass migration in history.
We've changed the location - we are now holding the event in the courtyard of Lawrence Batley Theatre. Times remain the same - 2pm - 4pm.
The Lawrence Batley Theatre courtyard will be transformed into a tranquil Indian tea garden. Come have chai time, meet Iqbal Hussain from the National Archives, listen to Mandeep Samra ‘s vinyl sound installation, join in with the incredible bhangra dancing with Hardeep Sahota and his crew, and immerse yourself in the theatrical performance with the Company of Chol Theatre. The afternoon will b infused with the earth-inspired sounds of Vijay Venkat’s bansoori flute, tuk tuks, and Indian folk songs creating our memorable soundtrack to the afternoon. This event explores hope and humility demonstrating how diversity can also bring people together.
'Drawing the Line' Performances at 2:15pm and 3:15pm
