Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra The BSO
The BSO remains at the forefront of the UK orchestral music scene, continuing to serve communities across the South and South West of England, and extending its influence across the whole of the UK and internationally with regular festival appearances, an extensive catalogue of recordings and continued live broadcasts on BBC Radio 3. It is one of the most dynamic and innovative symphony orchestras in the UK today. It has always been thus since it’s foundation in 1893 by the visionary conductor Sir Dan Godfrey.
The BSO performs upwards of 120 concerts from its home base at Lighthouse, Poole to Bournemouth, Portsmouth, Exeter, Bristol, Basingstoke, Cheltenham, Torquay, Weymouth and Winchester. The Orchestra also performs the length and breadth of the UK, regularly appearing at venues in Birmingham, Cardiff, Leeds, Nottingham, Manchester and Gateshead, and at various Festivals such as Lichfield, Henley and Cheltenham. The BSO also performs in numerous London venues including St Paul’s Cathedral, the Royal Opera House, and the Barbican plus regular appearances at the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall.
The 2012-2013 Season will be the fourth season for Principal Conductor Kirill Karabits - a role which he will stay in until at least 2016. He carries on the tradition of esteemed Principal Conductors including Sir Charles Groves, Constantin Silvestri, Rudolf Schwarz, Paavo Berglund, Andrew Litton, Yakov Kreizberg and Marin Alsop.
