Joseph Haydn once said that when he thought of God he could write only cheerful music. The vivid, pictorial nature of the text, with its rising sun ‘in splendour bright’, its birds with their ‘cooing calls’, and its menagerie of tawny lions, flexible tigers, nimble stags and noble steeds, certainly fired his imagination.

And the combination of solo singers Marcus Farnsworth, Vanessa Bowers and Gwilym Bowen, a top period-instrument orchestra led by Catherine Martin, and the Lea Singers with their new Music Director Victoria Longdon will create a truly memorable occasion, whether it is your first experience of Haydn’s The Creation or it is already a well-loved favourite.
