Art Talk - Beside the Seaside

With “Port of the Year” Brixham just across the water, Torbay’s coastal Geopark status, the beautiful estuary town of Teignmouth, and our own front door a mere stones skim away from the beach, it is little wonder that we had no problem finding artists to take part in our Coastal Exhibition, “Beside the Seaside”. From Torbay, to Teignmouth, to Dartmouth, to Plymouth, our exhibitors will be bringing us art from all over the South West coastline for a display that will really capture the beautiful locality of the Gallery.

Continuing our popular series of Art Talks we’ll have two of our superb coastal exhibitors speaking for us this month.

Phil Eley brings a collection of his Naïve coastal works to the gallery, produced on canvas and reclaimed driftwood and will be delivering a discussion on the difficulties of the Naïve art form and how we appreciate childlike art.

Our second talk will be delivered by Dave Crocker who recently produced two portraits in the window of the gallery. Working in landscape and portraiture, Dave is exhibiting a number of works from his 365 Coast Path project in which he painted on the South West coast path for a full year and produced 365 pieces. He’ll be telling us a little more about the project as well as talking about the additional content he produces alongside his artwork through the use of timelapse and videography.

Both speakers will be taking questions after their talks and as always we welcome open discussion at the events. Our Art Talks bring speakers from all over Devon to the gallery to discuss their work, their techniques and the themes they interact with, every talk offering a unique perspective from a local artist.
