The Consortium of South Hams Artists - Annual Summer Exhibition
Ten local artists show a wide range of fine arts from oil and watercolour painting and printmaking to glass and ceramics.
Local views will, as always, be well represented: Allan Green shows a new collection of oil paintings of seascapes and coastal and estuary subjects, while Lesley Meir’s paintings in oils and pastel are inspired by the light and colours in the Devon landscape. Subjects include landscapes, beaches, boats and figures, all in soft, muted colours.
Tony Henderson’s popular watercolour paintings are characterised by a light touch and lively markmaking, and Brian Harris works in a contemporary style, this year presenting a body of small oil paintings of ships and harbours in a naive style.
Printmaking and mixed media will be represented by Maggie Smith, Emma Cook and Alison Veazey. Alison’s work is characterised by rich colour and texture in its exploration of landscape and pattern. Emma’s work involves delicately embellishing and embroidering pieces of printmaking, while Maggie’s collection this year includes works inspired by the surrounding countryside and her vegetable garden.
David Roberts produces striking forms in fused glass, and Penny Hegenbarth shows a wide range of functional and decorative ceramic and raku items, all displayed alongside Sheila Hegenbarth's decorative hand-made greetings cards which incorporate pressed flowers, beads and fabrics - each a little work of art in its own right.
