art orbit
This video was made in 2011 when working with different communities in Plymouth . This work was an attempt to involve people in a creative work .
In spring 2011, Crazy Glue, a group of parents and young people from Efford who have been engaging in art via the Take A Part programme since 2009 went to London to see British Art Show 7 at the Hayward Gallery in London. The trip was for many the first time they had ever been to London and the experience was a positive one.
Filled with enthusiasm and an understanding of the show, Crazy Glue returned to Efford keen to develop discussions around art. Working with artist Alain Pezard, the Crazy Glue group from Efford met with residents of the communities of Barne Barton, North Prospect, Honicknowle and Whitleigh to make durational sculptures out of cob, a traditional building material, in their local neighbourhoods. The process of making the work gave a platform for engagement and discussion about contemporary art, about their communities and about their woodlands.
The entire project was documented by Magic Hour, a film-based social enterprise developed in partnership with Take A Part and High View School with filmmaker Hana Backland.
Take A Part is an arts and regeneration project for the Efford area of Plymouth supporting the regeneration. It is a partnership project between the Heart of Efford Community Partnership, Plymouth Arts Centre and Plymouth City Council.
