Celebrate Women and enjoy a Mother’s Day Treat at Tolson Museum

Tolson Museum has some special plans for Mother’s Day on Sunday 11th March but you don’t have to be a mum to enjoy them!
There’s a whole afternoon of activities and The Friends of Tolson will be serving delicious Cream Teas from 1pm – 3.30pm in the picturesque Morning Room (£5 per head, booking advised).
At 2pm there will be a fascinating free illustrated talk by Catherine Hall called ‘Kirklees Museums - Female Connections’. Celebrate pioneering women and discover how the remarkable lives of several Victorian women intertwine with the histories of your local museums, including Tolson Museum’s Sarah Martha Beaumont who was an early strong animal rights supporter; Violet Bagshaw who travelled the world bringing objects back to Bagshaw Museum; and Charlotte Bronte whose visit to Oakwell Hall was inspiration for 'Fieldhead' in her classic novel ‘Shirley’.
The Museums have a great team of Public Engagement Volunteers, join them to discover and handle historical objects used by women in the past. This fun interactive session will be suitable for all ages.
Grant Scanlan, Tolson Museum Manager commented:
“It’s going to be a wonderful afternoon celebrating women and is suitable for all ages. Drop by, take your pick of the events, treat yourself to a cream tea and enjoy the gift shop – whatever takes your fancy. We look forward to welcoming everyone to our special Mother’s Day celebration afternoon”.
The Museum will be open from 12noon-4pm, to find out more or book your Cream Tea please contact Tolson Museum tel. 01484 223240.
