SuzyWaldron Fine Art
I'm a BA(Hons) Fine Art student currently in my final year at University College Falmouth, but originally from Torquay.
My work focuses on the ways in which we perceive space and visualise information: the potential for discordance between our physical surroundings and how we make sense of them in our minds. My paintings and drawings explore this theme through the juxtaposition of macro- and microcosm, combining material drawn from aerial and microscopic photography with my own observational sketches. The use of translucent papers and glazes allows me to build up visual information in layers, reflecting the contemporary experience of information overload.
I am particularly interested in the concept of mapping: the condensation of data into series of lines and colours seems to run parallel to the way we sort through material in our minds. Reducing excess and detail into a visual shorthand is central to the images I make. In this way, the viewer is invited to construct their own interpretation of the formal elements of the work, much as we each form our own perception of the world around us.
