Natalie Elder Artist/Sculptor working with Glass, Metals and Ceramics
From personal satisfaction of producing a three-dimensional version from a sketch to needing 'a greater depth and reason' to creating just 'stuff'...
My views have grown:
Society’s increasing consumerism and population has affected amounts of waste produced since the Industrial Revolution. However, using some of the waste could make a difference to landfill and carbon amounts. I use locally sourced waste glass from nearby companies that cannot recycle due to expense. Utilising glass including other found items, I produce work as a commentary of our lifestyle whether it’s alcohol related or other wise. Often the link between concept and materials used are considered as 'direct and expressed literally'.
But don’t get me wrong, I'm no extremist or anti-alcohol ideallist. I like to make sculptural pieces with a concept, simple hand-size forms and occasionally just something aesthetically pleasing.
Currently, I am experimenting with ceramics, so watch this space...
