Torbay ArtsBase Awards 2008
Torbay ArtsBase is a forum for local creative's that aims to help promote and celebrate all forms of The Arts, creativity and culture within the Bay. A key aspect of Torbay ArtsBase's work is to hold an annual Awards Ceremony at which exceptional artistic achievement is celebrated . Awards are presented to those individuals and groups whose contribution to the development of the cultural landscape of the Bay have been particularly noteworthy. Their contribution might have been in producing, developing, or promoting the Arts in any one of its forms.

This year’s awards took place at Oldway Mansion, Paignton in September. At the 'Oscars' style do there was also some musical entertainment that included latin/jazz band Ragged Fish, last year's award winners Memo and soul/funk band Dodgy Practice.
Nominations for the awards are taken from members of the public and the committee (a volunteer group) then evaluates the nominations according to three main criteria:
1) that the work must be of a high standard in terms of creativity and finished product
2) that the group or individual doing that work must either live in or carry out their creative activity in the Bay
3) that the work must in some way contribute to the cultural landscape of the Bay (this could be by way of enriching the lives of those who live here, or by spreading the word about the creativity here to a wider area/audience)
It is this process that the Torbay ArtsBase committee go through in order to present to you what we feel is our selection of the best creative people and activities in the Bay over the last year.
