Jon Heavens Helios Design - Graphic Artist/Illustrator
"A born and bred Torbay man, a true connoisseur of what is engaging, humourous and mildly politically-incorrect visual design. Some say he super-sein'ed his way out of womb, some say one of his middle names is danger. Its actually Oliver."
I've been described as alot of things the last few years. Some of them wouldn't be right to utter again on a public website, but in all truth, professionally speaking, I'm still working it out myself.
I am a very open, honest, vibrant and talkative person. I feel confident in myself and my abilities as a competent creative designer. You need to be able to approach a design brief with nothing but a fresh idea - and I've always felt that humour helps - especially in a world of design that congratulates those who spew out the same stuff- time and time again.
I have a very objective and open philosophy towards what goes into my work. I am someone who would like to try pretty much everything there is to offer. On the horizon I have got an animation project I want to persue with a few college contemporaries, equally I'm looking into expanding from my Visual Arts Degree (of which I am in my first year) into a Bachelor of Arts - ensuring that I do not specialise in anything!
I find great enjoyment in a wide range of image creation techniques - from Illustration, Photography, Animation, Screenprinting, Media and Web Design.
I would love to offer something to Torbay itself, that would play away from soul-less corporate design and bureacratic procedure. Something rooted firmly in making the dull dreary business of life in the south west stalled for a second, to produce a moment of realisation, or at least, a faint smile.
When you produce a piece of work that you can see people engaging with, those cogs turning in their head and that tilt of the head, there is very little more satisfying.
I would love to work with any Animators, Graphic Artists, Designers, Illustrators and Photographers who would be up for it!
There is so much fun and fulfillment in creative design it would be hard to imagine a life without it!
