Grand Northern Ukulele Festival More than just a ukulele festival!
Grand Northern Ukulele Festival (GNUF) is an annual arts & music festival that takes place in Huddersfield in May each year. It is a multi-award-winning festival, having been named, "Best Ukulele Festival" in the UK's UKE Magazine Awards and having received a Queen's Award for Voluntary Organisations and the Epic Award for England. It is a volunteer-run event that is known for showcasing world-class performers from across the UK and around the world. The GNUF team work with established favourites, introduce new talent to wider audiences and commission new pieces that bring people together in creative ways.
The festival has multiple stages, each unique (ranging from the main auditorium in the Lawrence Batley Theatre, to Vinyl Tap’s basement with others in between). There are also a number of pop-up stages & events created to give artists the freedom to take risks and to give audiences the chance to see something unexpected.
Each year, a wide range of music playing and making workshops keeps participants on their toes (and smiling). In 2018, the festival introduced a range of no-uke-necessary workshops as a way of recognising the many things that influence great performances. Those new workshops explore things like photography, stagecraft, harmonising & clowning. Led by our performers, each workshop offers participants close engagement with some of the world’s top artists in their field.
GNUF has built its reputation on delivering a truly engaging and participatory festival with opportunities for people to have exceptional experiences of the arts and to make real connections. Don’t miss out on the fun!

LISTEN TO WHAT OUR PUNTERS HAVE TO SAY:
"Soopa Doopa festival – brilliant acts, great workshops, really smooth organisation but above all it was just plain fun ! I loved the relaxed and good natured attitude across the board. Already got my tickets!"
"I have travelled the world in search of the ultimate ukulele festivals. GNUF is the absolutely, hands down, best one I have been to! Brilliant workshops, performers, merch market! And the most welcoming, friendly Uke players to be found anywhere! Just go!"
