17th July 2012 – Friends, locals and supporters of The Cary Arms, Babbacombe Bay, Devon, joined Jen Podmore, general manager, to celebrate the launch of the inn’s brand new pop-up gallery last night (Monday 16th July ’12). For one night only the clouds parted to provide a beautiful sunny evening, allowing the private viewing to take place on the Cary’s terrace.
Throughout the summer, the gallery, will feature works by artists Olivia Strange and Becky Bettesworth. In honour of the brand new initiative, Becky has painted the inn’s renowned Captain's Table, which takes pride of place in the gallery.
The gallery will be open on Tuesdays, Thursdays and the weekends throughout July, August and September 2012.

Olivia Strange is an abstract expressionist artist working in the medium of painting, installation and sculpture. Born and raised in Torquay, Olivia first took inspiration from the beautiful scenery and incandescent light that Devon had to offer. Having studied at Chelsea College of Art & Falmouth College of Art, Olivia has continued to develop her artistic practice since graduation. For more information visit www.oliviastrange.com
Becky Bettersworth obtained a distinction at art foundation and a BA Hons in Graphic Design at Bath Art College. She moved to London and was an art director for a major advertising company before moving to Devon to pursue her career as an artist. She had numerous exhibitions and sold her paintings in Devon and London, exhibiting her work at The Mall and the Affordable Art Fair in London.
